3.2.2. Clipping planes
Note that images obtained from a CT/MRI scan typically include some unwanted parts that can obstruct the vision of the model when rendered in 3D. Also, although 3D views provide an effective way to study the reliefs of the models, the visibility of the inner parts is limited. In order to overcome these issues our mobile application includes three configurable orthogonal planes that can be used to remove unwanted parts of the 3D model. By default these clipping planes are located outside of the model, so they do not affect the visualization, see Fig. 4a. In Fig. 4b however, the axial plane has been moved down in order to remove the top part of the cranium, thus revealing its inner side.
