Obviously, the main draw to the film is the rape and torture scene about halfway through the movie. This act of the film is disturbing from start to finish, and it leaves you with a feeling of dirt and hopelessness that hasn’t been matched since. The way the girls are forced to humiliate themselves in some of the worst ways imaginable (forced urination, forced lesbianism) seems more disturbing than the rape itself, but to me the most powerful scene in the movie is the clip of Mary walking into the lake and getting shot by Krug. This entire act of the movie isn’t for the faint of heart, and will cross the lines of what’s acceptable and unacceptable if you aren’t familiar with this kind of film. The power of these scenes are enhanced by the cast, especially David Hess. David Hess is a raw actor, bringing Krug to life, and creates of the most disturbing characters in film.
