Although Leonardo Da Vinci drew designs of the aircraft, no major effort was made in their development until 1810. At the time, Sir George Cayley, designed the first airfoil. All successful airplanes have been constructed according to Cayley’s principles on the surfaces of a wing.
•In 1843, Cayley designed the Aerial Convertiplane, which had rotors, propellers and a canvas-covered fuselage to hold its steam engine.
