Scenario simulations in which people are given a job or role in a simulated business, (not the sort of prompted role used in role-play exercises, but one where they can just be themselves in a business situation), and interact with others to get a task completed, can enable people to learn about business processes, and the role of ―soft issues‖ like leadership and teamwork in determining business results, at the same time as building their understanding of interdependencies, and what actually happens in different parts of the business.
Classroom discussions of the impact of HR on each area of the business can help to clarify the role of the function in both setting and executing strategy, and provide a real eye-opener for HR professionals who were not previously aware of their impact in these areas.
