As a high level of hygiene is required throughout the seed production cycle, the
facilities need to be designed to ensure that wastewaters are efficiently removed from
the husbandry areas. This means that effluent goes directly into drainpipes, floors
subject to wetting drain well, and all open drains and effluent pipes have sufficient
fall to completely drain. These characteristics are critical to ensuring that organic
wastes and contaminated waters do not contribute to the rapid buildup of pathogenic
organisms within the facility
