I’m G and welcome to our first live video of our course throughout this course in sociology we're gonna be looking at culture socialization and social inequality you're going to be examining why people do what they do in groups the rules the values the expected behaviors a group for going to be looking about how you become um internal figure out why there have and have-nots in every society around the world I'm excited I hope you're excited let's get started on this first video introduction to sociology now the second slide you will always see in these videos covers terms to now certain terms or words that we're gonna be using throughout class they're going to be really important are going to be jargon thats language up the subject they're already talking about in class now I'm not gonna go over every one of these in DEP because a lot of these terms will actually be addressed in the rest videos but I would say make sure that you copy these down highlight bees make any notes for their own as you're entertaining you notes for this video sup those are terms though sociology social forces biography and sociological imagination so let's get started now we talk about this I do you like to think about the simpson simpson's for those of you who don't know is this cartoon that's still on TV today it is I think 26 or 27 years old there's that many seasons that it's been our recurring in new episodes and The Simpsons just like any TV show is a side it's a group of people that can be studied and and so we're going to give you your first definition literally look at what society is and and this is probably the most important term you will get our entire course a society consists of three face aside much must share the same geographical territory now that could be a city that could be a region that could be a community that could even be a country but a society has to all be in one particular territory it has to be under the same political authority the same kinda government the same kinda political ruling body and that there has to be the same cultural expectations how you look act how you speak how people communicate the values that aside in the ass those three things need to be met for a society to exist same geographical territory same political authority and downing cultural expectations that as a society we're gonna keep coming to that through the entire course now what is sociology sociology studies Humane Society so humans site I am outside a human side and social behavior and will highlight one more thing as scientific manner so we're not just looking at our guy so that person gets ostracized because they're wearing this type close okay I'll that's interesting know we look at things scientifically we try and get as much data as possible to explain house I dysfunction how different societies class with one another you're saying human society and social behavior behaviors people interacting with the site it's not about one person that psychology sociology looking at interaction group sewer look at two things social interaction again how people relate to one another and social phenomena various strange things to happen within society think that we can observe things that you can record up for instance they did a really great sociological experiment not too long ago they the took actor in a dress them up in in a homeless persons close how to walk down a busy street SC and fall down for 10 like he was heard did that know it today then they took that same actor dressed in their really nice you man looked relieved important wealthy same thing happened people were running it up they were calling 911 they were a believes is

is perhaps what's this is back its it's not just okay this is only happen to me it has to happen to anyone else most the time happens to use because it's happening to other people so for instance
if you were bi targeted if you are seat as inferior because our how much money your family make some say let's talk about well right you may say okay I'm getting targeted by this I am I made feel inferior because I don't have a lot of money but that’s not just your individual experience lots of other people in multiple sizes deal with that so sociological imagination when you're looking at how society functions putting something happens to you think about okay that's not just happening to me it's happening in this largest side so we're trying to also in sociology connect individual experience that people have to you that entire side now why do people stay sociology why are you taking this course three main reasons really the fi
