The exact year of when Peter Paul Rubens created The Feast of Venus Verticordia is a mystery, yet we do know it was completed sometime in the mid-1630s. The composition contains many figures scattered throughout, giving the piece a very lively sense of animation. Despite all the action, Rubens appropriately places references to the ancient past throughout the composition. The scholar Phillip Fehl helps us understand the piece through his article “Rubens’ ‘Feast of Venus Verticordia.’”
