Introduction
In recent years, due to the globalization of the economy, corporations are faced with more diverse conditions. In particular, companies must fulfill expectations to be more proactively involved in societal challenges that are common across the world, such as the issue of climate change, and should fulfill their corporate social responsibility ( CSR*1) towards the goal of realizing a more sustainable society.
At the same time, the global expansion of business activities has led to more diverse stakeholders*2 with various backgrounds, necessitating CSR activities that consider the individual culture and history of a broad spectrum of countries.
Based on Honda Philosophy, Honda has promoted initiatives in numerous areas including the environment and safety, in order to fulfill its corporate social responsibility. Thanks to the support and efforts of various stakeholders, Honda has gained the trust of society through the collaboration with suppliers based on our purchasing philosophy and principles. . Given the mounting social expectations towards CSR activities, we believe it is essential to share our understanding of “Honda approach to CSR,” not only within Honda but also with our suppliers, which are key Honda business partners, and to work together as one team to promote CSR initiatives. Towards this end, Honda published the “Supplier CSR Guidelines.”
It is our hope that these Guidelines will help our suppliers and Honda maintain a shared understanding of CSR, to carry out CSR initiatives proactively, and to continue growing together as companies that society wants to exist. We would like to ask each supplier to move forward with their CSR activities and to request their sub tier suppliers to conduct their own CSR activities.
