The 2005 Parsa study highlighted the owner’s family
situation as an important predictor of business failure,
and other studies have shown that owners benefit from
emotional and tangible support from their families (Scase
and Goffee 1982). However, family obligations can be
distracting to business owners and thus can lead to higher
failure rate (Ghiselli, La Lopa, and Bai 2001; Parsa et al.
2005).
