RAISING THE MAMMOTH
Finding a frozen mammoth is a great discovery, particularly one that is in very good condition. Scientists can study the contents of the mammoth's stomach to find out about its diet. This can tell them two things: it tells them about the mammoth's lifestyle; and it tell them about the plants that were common when the mammoth was alive. However they can't learn very much about the mammoth's behaviour. To do this they would have to clone the animal. Professor Akira Iritani of Kinki University in japan is just one of several scientists who hope to clone a mammoth. professor Iritani believes that we may see a'jurassic Park' for mammoths in Siberia in as little as twenty years!
