Everyone is a little superstitious. It could be something small like having a hand you like just because it has won for you in the past. A lucky card guard. A favorite place at a table. A person you sit next to while you play. A song you have to listen to before you play or while you play.
It even goes the other way. You may have a powerful hand that you will not play because you think its bad luck. I have heard of people refusing to play 66 because they think it is unlucky. I have heard people say they refuse to play poker on the 13th because they think they will lose because of the day.
I think superstitions go hand and hand with most poker players it could be something small you never realized.
I remember a night where I played 5/2 almost every time I got it because I won with it 8 out 10 times that night. I am not saying that this is my favorite hand and I would have normally never even kept the hand. I remember the only reason I kept this hand was I was on the Big Blind and no one raised. The Flop came and there was a 5 5 2. So here I am sitting with a full house. So of course I wasn't about to fold. I remember the next time I got this hand I held it just because it was lucky for me before. The flop was 2 2 2. I am telling you this hand was on fire that night. Of course now when I get that hand I sometimes wonder but I know the odds for this hand are low I only played it that night because it was winning.
I would love to hear some of your stories about superstitions or being superstitious. What do you think helps improve your game?
