Recrystallization of CuSO4
Add 1 g of CuSO4.5H2O to 15 ml deionised water in a 100 ml conical flask. GENTLY warm the
mixture on a hotplate, swirling all the time until a clear blue solution is obtained – you
made need to add a little extra deionised water to ensure complete dissolution. In a
separate flask heat 10 ml EtOH to 70 oC and add it to the copper(II) sulfate solution. Allow
the mixture to cool to room temperature and cool further in an ice bath if necessary until
blue crystals form.

Collect the product by suction filtration using a Büchner funnel. Wash the product on the
filter paper with one Pasteur pipette full of ether and air-dry the sample. Finally, weigh the
sample and record the value.
