Higher performance requirements, combined with the fact that
most recent reform efforts have been tactical responses errantly applied to an outdated
paradigm, make the need for fundamental changes in education imperative: to the extent
that it is education’s mission to prepare people for vocations in business, government,
and the non-profit sector, it is inconceivable that education will be able to avoid systemic
change, as these other sectors require greater agility form their employees.
