Protesters disrupt candidacy registration
The process for party-list candidate registration has yet to be completed following the siege by the anti-government protesters of the Thai-Japanese Sports Stadium, the candidacy registration venue in Din Daeng area, on Sunday night, forcing political parties to file charges with police to keep their registration rights.
Election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn on Monday said the Election Commission (EC) will neither relocate the election registration venue nor extend the registration period of party-list candidates, scheduled for December 23-27 at the stadium. The anti-government protesters besieged the Thai-Japanese Sports Stadium on the first day of the registration.
He said the process of the registration has yet to be completed. With documents remaining unchecked, the EC members cannot undersign the registration, and the political parties have yet to pay the application fees.
He added the EC will not hold the drawing of lots to distribute party-list candidacy numbers today.
