These are some I came up with. First, is the house privately owned or does it belong to the National Trust or some other organization? If the latter, how long ago did cease to be private property, and was public money involved in the transfer? Is there still a family in residence, and do they actually occupy any rooms which the public are admitted to? Do they emphasize that this is a home with family photographs, etc.? Does the tour of the house include any below-stairs areas and, if so, how long have these been open to the public? Is there a "theme park' approach with costumed guides, etc., or do we just rely on a guide book or equivalent in going round the house? Do most of the original contents remain, or has much been removed? In particular, have any important works of art been sold? Does the house date from a single period or have extensive changes been made since it was built? Is it presented in historical terms with reference to a past way of life, or is there more emphasis on its survival into the present? Has it been subject to a major restoration conservation project at any stage?
