Singapore. It was recommended that all students be provided with the experience of self-directed
learning which could take the form of Project Work (PW). This interdisciplinary, project-based approach
to teaching and learning views students as enquirers, and teachers as architects, of the process
where they “apply creative and critical thinking skills”, “improve communication skills”, “foster
collaborative learning skills” and “develop self-directed inquiry and life-long learning skills” (Ministry
of Education, 1999, p. I-1). Through implementing PW, students are expected to achieve the learning
outcomes in the following domains as shown in Table 1:
