-Agonists (clenbuterol (CLE), salbutamol (SAL) and
terbutaline (TER)) are adrenergic drugs, which are originally
developed for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary
diseases, especially for asthma [1]. Additionally, these drugs
benefit the meat-producing industry by enhancing muscle
accretion and diminishing muscle protein breakdown [2].
However, the use of potent illegal -agonists continues to
demand regulatory scrutiny since they can cause cardiovascular
and other side effects to human [2]. Consequently, analysis
of -agonists is essential for both the quality control of drugs
in human uses and for the monitoring of illegal uses in meat
industry. Different methods, including high performance
liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC),
capillary electrophoresis (CE) and hyphenated techniques of
these methods, have been proposed for the analysis of various
