5.1.14 Other Enzymes
Arginase, malate dehydrogenase (MDH), isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), glucose-6-
phosphatase dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) are amongst
the many enzymes which have been measured in studies of hepatotoxicity.
Glutathione transferases (GST), essential in many detoxification processes, have until
recently not been used widely due to the low levels in plasma, poor enzymatic stability
and inhibition by bilirubin and bile acids in the assay. The sensitive radioimmunoassays
now available have been used in a few laboratories, but newer enzyme immunoassays
may widen the use of this enzyme assay.
