A questionnaire using a Likert scale (see appendix A) was developed to evaluate the
students’ opinions as they related to the immersion program rationale. The questionnaire
consisted of seventeen closed questions, translated into Thai to identify students’ opinions on
the bilingual educational aspects of the PIC. These seventeen questions were developed to
elicit opinionated information in four key areas; L1 competence, L2 competence, nonlanguage
academic competence (Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics), and cultural
understanding competence. Back translation was used to assess the translation viability (see appendix C). The questions were constructed in a manner that would elicit responses by using
a Likert scale. Interrater validity was conducted and the questionnaire was found to be valid,
interrater validity was 1.00 for all questions. Reliability of the questionnaire was assessed using
Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient (α= .841).
