One of the great things to rise out of efforts to preserve and showcase Northern Thai (Lanna) (Hyperlink to Lanna Culture, 1 General & Info) pride in the last fifty years is the khantoke dinner. Although it’s true that while traveling in Chiang Mai you will have opportunities to see or experience many individual elements of Lanna heritage, it is only at a khantoke dinner that you will be able to enjoy everything at once. The meal and show take their name from the traditional “khantoke” serving tray on which many small dishes of various foods would be brought out to be sampled by diners seated on the floor at dinner time. Today, guests who eat from the khantoke get to watch an enchanting show and have their choice of traditional floor seating or being seated in western style in chairs at a table as they dine.
