A review of the literature suggests that CBT and other
psychotherapies ameliorate hopelessness among depressed
patients. However, experimental studies showing the effect
of CBT combined with PR on hopelessness associated with
depression are lacking. This lack of knowledge is addressed
in this paper, which pursues the evaluation of the effects of
individual and group CBT combined with PR on hopelessness
among depressed adult patients in a PR setting. The
following hypotheses were tested:
1. PR combined with individual CBT is significantly more
effective in reducing hopelessness than PR only.
2. PR combined with group CBT is significantly more
effective in reducing hopelessness than PR only.
3. PR alone reduces hopelessness significantly.
