This study revealed a lot of other conceptions that
students hold on UVR and rays in general that may
be worth looking into. Students came up with ideas
that sunrays linger around in the air and could affect
a person long after they’ve left the sun. It was also
clear that students had problems with the way sun
protection regiments and sun lotion work. SPF 15 or
30 did not seem to register well with them. A good
number of them conceived of sun lotion having addictive
properties. This is not surprising though as
the population in Botswana being predominantly
black would have been exposed at one time or another
to skin lightning creams which are addictive.
