For this reason, the Ritter bulk storage
system, which has the least drop of
brightness is favoured for mills
producing "mechanical" pulps for the
production of newsprint. However, the
best solution to the brightness problem
in bagasse newsprint mills is probably
the use of the BAGATEX—20 bale system.
If the bagasse is properly stored by
either of the two basic long—term storage
systems. there is little, if any,
deterioration of pulp strength
properties; and. as mentioned above, in the case of chemical pulpjng, "aging“
improves pulping operations. Improperly
stored bagasse can deteriorate quite
rapidly with serious loss of pulp
strength properties.
