The DSC assesses a person’s uncertainty and factors contributing to uncertainty ,with 16 questions rated a score of 1 for “strongly agree” to 5 for “strongly disagree” e,g, “This decision is easy for me to make” .The DSES assesses a person’s confidence in making an informed choice and included 11 questions that are answered on a score of 0 for “not at all confident” to a score of 4 for “very confident” e.g. “I feel confident that I can get the facts about the benefits of each choice ”. Both the DSC and DSES have scores ranging from 0 to 100 . On the DCS a higher score means decisional conflict ,with a score of less than 25 is suggestive of decisions being made easily . On the DSES ,higher score indicate higher decisional self-efficacy . All three questionnaires have been shown to be reliable and valid , and have been utilised in studies involving cancer , blood transfusion , cardiovascular risk reduction and osteoporosis.
