Response set bias was a particular concern in this study, since preliminary
analysis of the data suggested a possible tendency of Indians to have more
negative responses than Americans. However, if this were due to a cultural
characteristic, it would be expected that Indians would also be more negative
on negatively worded items. This was not the case: the Indians' responses to
the five negatively worded items were all significantly (p < 0.001) higher than
those of the Americans.
