Epistaxis is a very frequent condition, which presents with
lighter bleeding episodes to more severe cases. In Denmark,
approximately 8500 patients with lighter episodes were
treated in hospital casualty wards or outpatients’ clinics
during 2004, equivalent to 170 per 100,000 inhabitants per
year (The National Board of Health 2008). However, a
significant number of patients with more severe nose bleeding
are also admitted to hospital departments for treatment with
