The moon is a round ball like the earth. But it is much smaller than the earth. The moon is nearer to us than all the stars. It goes round the earth in twenty-eight days just as the earth goes round the sun in a year.
Unlike the sun and the stars, the moon has no it. So moonlight is soft and dim. It is not hot and bright as sunlight.
Every night the moon seems to change its shape. Sometimes it seems to grow larger and sometimes smaller. But it does not really change. All the time it is a round ball. But we can see only that part of it that is lit up by the sun. The rest is dark.
There is no air and no water on the moon. So man cannot live there.
Michael Collins, Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. Aldrin were Americans. They went to the moon by Apollo 11 on 20th July,1969. They brought oxygen with them, and they brought back dust and rocks.
