Twenty-seven cases of oral cancer treated between 1999 and 2006 at the division of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Kanazawa University Hospital, Japan were identified. The clinicopathological stage of these cases were categorized on the basis of the tumor/nodes/metastasis (TNM) classification of malignant tumors of the Union Internationale Contre le Cancer [15] (Table 1). Surgical resection was the initial treatment in all cases included in this study.
