Influenced by respectively Amaravati, Gupta and Pala schools, Buddha images of Dvaravati period are based on those of Indian art. The first evidences of Indianiasation found in Thailand are the mostly-pure Amaravati Buddha images, possible to be directly imported from India. Thereafter, the Buddha images were created be the locals in accordance with the style and the Iconography of South-Indian Amavarati school of art. The South Indian iconography, for instance the gesture of teaching (Vitarka Mudra) and the sitting posture with the right leg rested on the left one, existed continuously from the beginning to the end of the period.
