A modeltosimulatecoolingcrystallizationprocesseswithultrasoundisproposedbyintroducingan
additional kineticexpressionfornucleationmechanismduetotheultrasoundirradiation.Applyingthe
model topredicttheconcentrationprofiles,nucleationrates,andcrystal-sizedistributionduringthe
sonocrystallization processshowsthatthekeyparameterforunderstandinginducednucleationseemsto
be thereductionofthenucleationwork,whichverifiestheassumptionofaheterogeneous-nucleation
mechanism. Hence,thespecificforeignsurfacesofthecavitationbubblesaswellastheadsorptionprop-
erties oftheformingcrystalsonthecavitationbubblesplayimportantrolesinqualitativepredictionof
the numberofinducednuclei.Furthermore,enhanceddiffusionduetoultrasonicwavesseemstohavea
minor effectonthenucleationmechanism.
