The Pan-Arab Free Trade Agreement (PAFTA), established in 1997 to create a Free Trade Area between member nations of the Arab League, currently has seventeen participating members from both the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and GCC (Gulf Country Council) regions. As of 2005, tariffs on industrial and agricultural products have been dismantled. Rules of origin are being established to regulate the free movement of products; currently products with 40% Arab value-added are granted free trade entry. As an exporter of commercial vehicles, and in particular buses to the GCC nations, Egypt stands to benefit from the increase in exports resulting from PAFTA.
