Table 2 shows the most important properties of the encapsulate
monoliths.
The Ws values recorded were between 0.13 and 0 g cm2
,
indicting the encapsulated materials showed absence of permeability
to water. All Cs values were >20 MPa, and all Fs values
>1 MPa. The Cs and Fs values depended on the quantity of waste
incorporated into the encapsulated material. Normally, Cs values
for wastes encapsulated in PSC (i.e., containing sand and gravel)
fall between 37 and 47 MPa. For example, a PSC encapsulate containing
30 wt% ilmenite mud has a Cs value of 36.8 MPa, and one
with 50 wt% phosphogypsum has a value of 47 MPa (García-Díazet al., 2013c; López et al., 2011a). The values obtained for the present
encapsulates were much smaller since none contained sand or
gravel. However, they are still high enough to allow their safe handling,
transport and storage in a landfill. The lack of any need for
