The male body ideal is lean and muscular, leading to
increased use of muscle-enhancing and fat-burning supplements,
exercise behaviors, and diet changes. Studies have
shown that both men and women who are exposed to more
messages about the ideal body have more body dissatisfaction
and are more likely to use various AF strategies. These
well-known findings also extend into lesser-studied behaviors,
such as attitudes toward cosmetic surgery. In fact, in one investigation,
those randomized to watch a reality television show
featuring cosmetic surgery were more likely to endorse the
desire to have cosmetic surgery themselves
