staff responses to change can differ greatly,
although it has been shown that, on average, when
a change is introduced, 20% of staff members are
enthusiastic, 50% are pragmatic and 30% are
sceptical (shankman and Malcolm 2002). Kerr
et al (2011) researched nursing opinions to
changing the nursing handover and found that
most nurses were reluctant to alter this process.
however, a limitation of this study was that it
was conducted in one organisation and nurse
management theories have shown that the way
in which an organisation is managed can affect
nurses’ confidence to communicate the need for
change (garon 2012).
