In experimental pots inoculated with R. solani, initial symptoms was developed on 10 to 15% of the stems within 7 to 10 days of inoculation, and these infection levels were within sheath blight treatment thresholds for the varieties in the study. Severe sheath blight developed occurred in the inoculated/untreated (control), averaging 40 to 46% infected stems with 30 to 44% of the lesion length to the height of the rice plant.
