Today, we are announcing that HGST has acquired Skyera, a privately held developer of solid-state storage systems for cloud and enterprise data centers. Skyera’s high density, low power and cost effective technology aims to provide the industry’s best total cost of ownership for high performance data center applications. Skyera will initially be integrated into HGST’s Flash Platforms Group under the leadership of Mike Gustafson. The acquisition was not subject to regulatory review.
Western Digital had previously funded Skyera as its initial outside investor, and has had an ongoing strategic relationship with the company. The acquisition brings valuable engineering talent and intellectual property that will further strengthen HGST’s capabilities in the rapidly growing enterprise flash storage segment. It is an example of how we are adapting to our changing environment in support of a strategic growth agenda and ultimate goal of delivering long-term value to customers, shareholders, and employees.
