Due to their morphological characteristics, puffers are rarely
caught in gillnets. Instead, the net serves as a path that herds the
fish to the bag where they are trapped. This fishing gear is used in
inland waters, in channels with strong water currents during the
turning tides, using a small vessel less than about 6.7 m long.
Fishers use a tide calendar to determine the time of peak current
velocity, at either high tide or low tide, to start their fishing
operations.
