Pay and Job Market Conditions
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts more applicants than available positions for flight attendants between 2010 and 2020. The actual number of jobs will stay about the same, but the airlines will need new hostesses and stewards to replace those who leave. Applicants with college degrees and customer service experience will have the best opportunities in a tight job market. Flight attendants, who often work under union contracts, averaged $41,720 in annual pay as of 2011, according to the BLS.
