Breastfeeding is critical for child survival [1, 2]. The intense debate surrounding breastfeeding in the presence
of HIV infection has brought breastfeeding to the forefront [3].Vertical transmission of HIV infection in the infants can
be caused by intra-uterine, intra-partum or late post-natal infection through breastfeeding [4]. The risk of HIV
transmission in the absence of any intervention in a non-breastfeeding population is around 25% and that in a breastfeeding population about 35% [5].
