Achievement test score are often used as one eligibility criterion and typically are used to document the student's educational performance level in a number of areas. Other areas of testing are explored if student is suspected of having a specific type of problem. For example, some type of behavior rating scale might be administered for students referred for for emotional or behavioral problem. Similarly, a diagnostic reading or math test might be used for student who are referred for problem in those areas. The specific methods of identifying exceptional student are discussed in the chapters in specific methods of identifying exceptional student are discussed in the chapter in parts 2-4 that focus on specific exceptionalities. Because intelligence and achievement testing are relevant for most exceptional student, a discussion of these follows.
