In a high school girl’s life, giving Valentine chocolate to the one you like is a tradition already. I’m already at my senior year of high school, but I never experienced giving it to the one that I really like the most. There were always hindrances that make me not to give it to him.
“Mirai, will you be making chocolates this year?” Umika asked as she looked for recipe books in the bookstore.
“Yes, I will but only for my friends though,” I told her. “For Suzuka and you only.”
“What about Ryosuke-kun?” Umika stopped looking for the recipe book and turned her all attention to me. “You always make Valentine chocolate for him every year right?”
“I admit that I always make some for him, but he never even tasted it.” I said sadly as I remember those chocolates that I made for him when we were in our 1st and 2nd year of high school. “I never managed to give it to him.”
“Then who did you give your chocolates then?” I was happy that Umika was worried.
“I gave it to Mikki-kun, since he always beg me to give him some,” Mikki was my escape route, since it would be troublesome to throw those chocolates I decided to just give it to him. He is my close friend so it’s fine to give it to him.
“But why didn’t you give it to him?” Umika hold my hand as she asked me. “Were you afraid that he’ll reject you?”
“Yes, because I know he would reject me anyway so why bother telling him and giving him chocolates,” he will definitely reject me because he already had Mariya. He already found someone else to replace me from his heart. “The pain is greater if you know everything and hear it on your own.”
“Mirai,” Umika looked sad, I know that she already knew what I meant. “Even though the pain is much harder to handle, saying to him you’re feelings that you still love him, don’t you think it’s worth it?”
“I’m not strong like you Umika,” I can handle the fact that he loves someone else, but I don’t think my heart can handle if he would say it to my face straight. That he don’t like me anymore. “I think my mom would be going home soon. I think I need to go already Umika. See you tomorrow!”
I was a coward.
