Bangkok Station, namely Hua Lamphong, is located on a large high-potential development area belonging to the State Railway of Thailand(SRT). The area is in the center of business district which consists of traditional business area, i.e. Yaowaraj road, Charoenkung road and China Town, and modern business area, i.e. Siam Square, MBK, Central World Department Store, etc.
Also, it is surrounded by various commercial buildings, govermentcenters and residential areas. In the future, most of train services would be allocated to Bang Sue Station. Consequently, Bangkok Station would be a high-potential vacant area. Moreover, the completion of MRT Red Line(Bangsue-Payathai-Makkasan) would stimulate the area to become a major connecting center. Therefore, it is vital to prepare a proper master plan in order to support future MRT networks and ridership as well as social and commercial development.
This study focuses on area development plan for Bangkok station and its surrounding areas under SRT, The Development plan will consider various aspects such as social benefit, commercial benefit and SRT service improvements. In the other words, this study will provide area development master plan, connectivity plan, financial and investment plan, and proper architectural design for SRT.
