Rooms vary considerably in size so look around – some are definitely on the tiny side – but all come with air-con, fridge, TV, WiFi and – and here’s the rub - super hard mattresses. Quite why the management haven’t changed them (and we can only assume they will do soon) is beyond us since they appear to be something of a standing joke in town. Anyone vaguely connected to tourism in town asking where you’re staying will break into a smirk and ask how the mattresses are if you tell them you're at Sukkasem! Always looking for silver linings though, a major advantage is that you could play a game of Jenga on one side of the bed while your partner jumps up and down on the other without risking anything. It doesn’t seem to bother local tourists and it’s a popular spot, so it's worth reserving in advance at weekends and high season. The location is excellent; it's close to the small night market with Sumondhewaraj Road a short walk away and Poom 3 restaurant next door. Staff are friendly and helpful with some English spoken; morning coffee or tea is free, WiFi works and bicycles are available for guests at 50 baht a day. There are spacious communal and seating areas as well.
