In Erikson's third stage, preschoolers wrestle with initiative versus guilt. These are the magic years when children a bursting with creativity. An emotionally healthy preschooler is full of questions and has a rich imagination. She frequently takes the initiative in her play and learning. At the same time, she is developing a conscience, an internal sense of good and bad, right and wrong. In her play, she takes on roles and comes to understand others' points of view. She feels guilty when her initiative leads her to harm others. Most of the though, she feels good about herself. She time, uses her emerging skills imagination to solve problems, trying new strategies and or asking for help when she gets stuck.
