Establishing the boundaries of an airport
catchment area involves the consideration of a
number of factors. Frequently, both primary
and secondary airport catchment areas are
established, which provides more precise in-
formation for later traffic allocation modelling.
A primary airport catchment area often includes
those cities and municipalities located closest
to the airport (e.g., within a defined travel time
from the airport). Both residents and visitors to
the primary catchment area would likely con-
sider the airport a first choice for air travel
based on its proximity.
