The root growth increment in ungrafted pumpkin, self-grafted pumpkin,
and cucumber grafted onto pumpkin were also similar under
91 mM NaCl (Table 1). Pumpkin grafted onto cucumber was less
tolerant to salinity compared with self-grafted pumpkin but was
more tolerant than self-grafted cucumber, and the salt tolerance of
cucumber grafted onto pumpkin was similar to that of self-grafted
pumpkin, indicating that the salt tolerance of grafted plants is primarily
driven by the rootstock but could be affected by the scion.
