If you have a relative in Sweden on whom you are especially dependent
Here you can read about how to prepare your application, how to apply on the web, what documents you must send in along with your application and what happens after that. At the bottom of the page you will find user conditions and the link to the login page where you will register as a user.
Note! You can not apply online if you wish to move to a relative in Sweden and have children under 18 accompanying you. In that case you must t submit the application through a Swedish mission abroad (embassy or consulate-general). Read about how to do that on the page Applying for a permit.
Before you start
To be able to apply on the web you must be over the age of 18 and have a valid passport. You must also:
have a valid e-mail address
register as a user
be able to pay the application fee with a VISA card or a MasterCard in connection with applying for a residence permit
be able to scan in the documents you need to attach
have a program that can read PDF format, such as Acrobat Reader.
Please note that your family member whom you wish to move to must be over the age of 18 and have a permanent residence permit in Sweden or be a citizen of Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Norway.
You must apply for a residence permit in your country of origin, or where you are permanently resident. You may not stay in Sweden while the Migration Board is processing your application.
Prepare yourself
Prepare yourself by getting the documents you'll need to be able to show your relationship to your relative in Sweden. Note that all documents should be translated into English.
It can take between 30 and 60 minutes to fill out an application. This depends on how many questions we need to ask you in your specific situation, and how well you have prepared. The registration page as well as the application form is in English. Most of the questions are obligatory and you must answer them to go further.
Attach documents to show your dependence
You must show that you have lived with your family member immediately before he or she moved to Sweden, and that your dependence existed already then. Your dependence must be of a nature which goes beyond that which is to expected among family members, one which makes it difficult for the two of you to live apart. You must send a copy of a valid passport where your personal data is indicated.
Additionally, you should enclose:
documents showing how you are related to each other
documents showing that you lived together immediately before your relative emigrated to Sweden
documents that confirm your special dependence.
