The US is not an Asian power; but it is involved extensively in Asian and Pacific affairs thus supporting the argument that it is part of the Asia-Pacific •With the above clarification, we shall begin by noting that the dawning of the post-cold war era starting from the 1990s created uncertainty in Asia-Pacific security • While the Asia-Pacific had bipolarity dividing the states into two camps during the cold war, it does not have a clear security architecture in the post-cold war era • No doubt, the US became the sole super power by default after the cold war; but its power is declining because of its problems at home and wars overseas
