A beautiful and charming woman, Mme. Loisel considers herself cheated because she cannot afford fine clothes, jewels, and a life of luxury. Blaming her discontent on her modest social status, Mme. Loisel exploits an opportunity to act for an evening as though she were wealthy. The evening is the undoing of the life not luxurious, but comfortable that she and her husband have. When Mme. Loisel's husband receives an invitation to a society event, he sacrifices his own desires to provide his wife with money to dress for the occasion. She wants to attend in style. Not satisfied with an attractive evening gown, she thinks she will appear dowdy with out jewels. Her husband indulges her by sugesting that she borrow some jewels from a wealthy friend a fateful suggestion. The stage is set for Mme. Loisel's evening in high society. The evening satisfies Mme.
