As compared with sole nuclear power plant, the NNCC
has a high level of reactor safety and very low total capital
investment, which is approximately 50% of a large nuclear
station with the same volume of power generation. Using
China’s estimated cost as an example, the investment of a
NGCC is about 500 USD/kW compared to about 2500 USD/
kW for an existing nuclear station. It is assumed that of
the HTGR could be close to this value. The investment in
NNCC plant includes a 960MW NGCC and a 320MW HTGR
nuclear station, which is approximately equal to 50% of a
960MW nuclear station. Therefore, adding NGCC to nuclear
power significantly reduces the high capital cost of sole
nuclear power.
